Some family friends in Idaho had some old sections of bowling alley wood (from a closed down lane from the early 2000s) lying around in a silo. For a summer project, I cut a section of the alley, lined the edges with Padauk wood, and used pourable dyed epoxy to fill in the marking holes, exposed nails, and gaps between the boards.
I was surprised to find out how many nails were used to affix the planks of a bowling alley, and definitely put some wear on an old circular saw blade. I opted to sand the top surface as opposed to use a plane, as the risk of hitting nails was extremely high.
I love how the Padauk orange contrasts against the lighter sanded bowling alley maple hardwood, and this cutting board (which is more of a hefty butcher block) serves as a wonderful accent piece in my kitchen.
